This snow contains a lot of salt grains of sea water, hence it easily absorbs water and becomes heavy snow, whereas Shigakogen is located inland at a high elevation above sea level keep in with low temperature, the powdery snow formed in the snow clouds made up of only ice and air. The average temperature of the Shigakogen is between -10 and -12 degrees below zero, which is a major factor in determining the high snow-to-liquid ratio and consequently plays an important role in maintaining powdery snow condition. AIBIYA is located about three hours from Tokyo by train.
